What is subcision and which acne scars does it treat?
Subcision is a minor procedure in which the doctor slides a fine needle or cannula under a depressed scar and moves it back and forth to cut the fibrous bands tethering the scar to deeper tissue. Released skin can rise, and the small healing response adds new collagen underneath. It works best on rolling scars, the soft, wave-like dips that look worse in side lighting. It does little for narrow ice-pick scars, which need different methods.

Does subcision work for acne scars?
For rolling scars, yes, it is one of the most effective options because it releases the bands that hold scars down. It does little for ice-pick scars. Most people see a gradual improvement over weeks to months, and results vary.
