Do tear trough fillers work?
Yes, for the right person. When the groove under the eye comes from thin skin and lost volume over the bone, a soft hyaluronic acid (HA) filler placed deep along the trough smooths the step between eyelid and cheek and reduces the shadow. They work less well, and can even look puffy, when the main problem is protruding eye bags, very thin or loose eyelid skin, or brown pigment. That is why a careful assessment matters more here than almost anywhere else on the face.

How long do tear trough fillers last?
Tear trough filler often lasts longer than filler in more mobile areas, commonly from several months to a year or more. It depends on the product, the amount, your metabolism and your skin. Because it lasts a while and the area is delicate, a top-up should only be done when the doctor sees real need.
Are tear trough fillers painful?
Most people find it more uncomfortable than painful. Numbing cream is used, many fillers contain lidocaine, and a blunt cannula is often used to reduce discomfort and bruising. The injection itself takes only a few minutes.
What are the risks of tear trough filler?
Swelling, bruising and tenderness are common for a few days. Other risks include lumps, a bluish tint if filler sits too close to the surface, and puffiness that lingers in people prone to swelling. A rare but serious risk is filler entering a blood vessel. Seek help straight away if you notice severe pain, skin colour change or vision changes.
Can tear trough filler be dissolved?
Yes. HA filler can be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase if you are unhappy with the result or it causes lasting puffiness. This is one reason soft HA filler is preferred for the tear trough.
Will tear trough filler get rid of my dark circles?
It helps dark circles caused by shadow from a hollow groove. It will not remove brown pigment or visible vessels, and it is not the best fix for eye bags. The doctor checks which type you have before recommending filler.
How long before my flight should I have tear trough filler?
Allow at least a few days for swelling and any bruising to settle, and ideally about two weeks if you want to see the final result before you leave. Flying is usually fine after the first day. Tell the doctor your flight date at booking.
