How do you get rid of whiteheads?

What causes whiteheads?
Whiteheads form when oil and dead skin cells block a pore and the opening stays closed. Oily skin, slow shedding of dead skin, hormones, and heavy or pore-clogging products all make them more likely.
How are whiteheads different from blackheads?
Both are clogged pores. In blackheads the pore is open, so the plug darkens in contact with air. In whiteheads the pore is closed by a thin layer of skin, so the plug stays white and is harder to clear without opening the surface first.
Should I pop whiteheads?
It is better not to. Because the pore is closed, squeezing pushes the contents deeper, which can turn a whitehead into an inflamed spot and leave a mark. In clinic, the skin is softened and cleared gently instead.

It depends on how oily your skin is and how quickly pores refill. Many people repeat a cleanse every few weeks alongside home exfoliation. The doctor can suggest a routine.
